LACEMHAR, Medicine Hat (YXH), and surrounding areas are on Treaty 7 Territory and are near Treaty 4 Territory that are the Traditional Indigenous Lands of the Siksika (Blackfoot), Kainai (Blood), Piikani (Peigan), Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut’ina (Sarcee), Cree, Sioux, Saulteaux bands of the Ojibwa Peoples, and Métis Nation in Region III, who have all call these Lands Home for Generations, over a 10,000-year history of deep and rich cultural heritages. Colonization deeply impacted many Generations of Indigenous Peoples in Canada (CA/CAN), the United States (US/USA), and North America (NA). The effects and legacy of colonialism; the required residential/industrial/boarding school systems; the required sixties-scoop/baby-scoop apprehension/foster/adoption placement systems; and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirits (MMIWG2S) continue directly and indirectly today. With Indigenous Peoples together as Treaty Peoples, we are in a shared collective journey of listening, learning, and understanding truth towards reconciliation. Indigenous Peoples give Stewardship of the Lands and contribute to building healthy, thriving communities of learning, work, recreation, and life.
